Comparing infection control tools
Epic Bugsy alternative for the hospital that needs a defensible antibiogram
Bugsy is Epic's infection control application. If your committee mainly waits on the annual antibiogram and quarterly MDRO rates, you can add a tool with a price you can read before any call.

Short answer
Epic Bugsy is the infection control application inside Epic, used for isolation flags, case abstraction and NHSN reporting, and its price is part of the Epic contract. KLAS scored it 80.6 out of 100 in February 2026, against 93.5 for Sentri7 and 90.8 for VigiLanz. If the gap is the cumulative antibiogram rather than surveillance, Antimicrobe builds it from a lab susceptibility CSV with no interface, from $249 a month for one facility.
What Bugsy covers and when to keep it
Consultants who implement Bugsy describe it as flagging patients whose microbiology results call for isolation, supporting case abstraction for NHSN and state reporting, tracking surgical site infection surveillance, and showing daily counts of patients with target organisms. Its advantage is location: the flag, the case and the chart are in one system you already license. Keep it if your Epic analysts own the build and surveillance is the job.
When an Epic Bugsy alternative makes sense
- The antibiogram is still assembled by hand from a Beaker export each year
- Self-service reporting in Bugsy needs a build your analysts have not scheduled
- A surveillance platform is out of budget but the P and T committee still needs M39-style tables
- You want unit, source and quarterly cuts without an interface project
Bugsy next to the alternatives
Scores are KLAS overall performance scores as summarized by HealthSystemCIO in February 2026. No vendor below publishes a platform price except Antimicrobe.
| Product | KLAS 2026 score | Price published | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Epic Bugsy | 80.6 | Part of the Epic contract | Isolation, case abstraction and NHSN inside the chart |
| Sentri7 (Wolters Kluwer) | 93.5 | No | Real-time HAI and MDRO surveillance |
| VigiLanz (Inovalon) | 90.8 | No | Surveillance across labs, vitals and medications |
| Antimicrobe | Not rated | Yes, $249 a month and up | The cumulative antibiogram and MDRO rates from a lab CSV |
What the antibiogram tool does
Antimicrobe keeps the first isolate per patient, flags any organism under 30 isolates, cuts by unit, source and quarter, and prints every rule on the report. The Lab plan covers one facility with 25,000 isolates and two seats and is bought by card on the pricing page. It does not flag isolation or submit NHSN data. The full comparison of platforms is in Epic Bugsy alternatives for infection prevention teams.

Questions
On this page's topic
How much does Epic Bugsy cost?
Epic does not publish Bugsy pricing and it is part of your Epic contract. Ask your Epic representative what is licensed. Antimicrobe publishes its plans from $249 a month for one facility.
Does Bugsy build a cumulative antibiogram?
Epic does not publish Bugsy build documentation, so confirm with your analysts whether your antibiogram comes from Bugsy, Beaker reports or a spreadsheet, and which duplicate isolate rule it applies.
Can I replace Bugsy with Antimicrobe?
No. Antimicrobe covers the antibiogram and quarterly MDRO rates only. It does not flag isolation or submit NHSN data, so it sits beside Bugsy.
Does Antimicrobe need an Epic interface?
No. Your lab exports a susceptibility line list as CSV and you upload it. There is nothing to build in Epic.
